Moakley Park Spring Cleanup - South Boston

Saturday, March 27, 2021
9:30 am11:30 am
1005 Columbia Road, South Boston, MA 02127

MAKE MOAKLEY YOURS by joining this spring cleanup at the park!

About this Event: Join Boston Harbor Now and the Boston Parks and Recreation Department at the first Moakley Park Cleanup of the year. Give back to your community and enjoy the beauty of this waterfront park as we prepare for the spring season by picking up litter and winter debris.

Volunteers should wear work clothes and close-toed shoes (that you don’t mind getting wet or dirty). Gloves will be provided, but you may also want to bring your own hat, sunscreen, raincoat, or jacket depending on the weather. Volunteers should bring snacks if they wish. Bottled water will be provided.

The event will run rain or shine, however, may be canceled due to severe weather.

What is provided: All necessary tools, including gloves, pickers, bags, sharp containers and safety instruction.

What to expect: Volunteer work days are 2 hours long and will require picking up litter and winter debris. We’ll give you everything you need to keep you safe. Just bring a positive attitude as you help make a difference in this City of Boston Park.

Directions: Please meet staff at the crosswalk across from the Edward J. McCormack Bathhouse at Carson Beach (pictured below). Parking and bike racks are available there. The closest public transit stop is JFK/UMass station on the Red Line, a 0.6 mile walk.

COVID-19 safety protocols:
- This event will be limited to 20 participants (we hope to offer drop-in cleanups in the future)
- Face mask or covering is required for participants
- Physical distancing between parties is required
- Stay home if you feel sick
- Do not participate if you have shown signs or symptoms or had exposure to sick individuals within 14 days of the event

*Note*: If this event is full or you are unable to attend on March 27, but you are interested in participating in future Moakley cleanups, please contact Boston Harbor Now's volunteer coordinator, Merrin Meltzer at mmeltzer@bostonharbornow.org.
