Sudbury River Cleanup (Framingham)
Rain Date: Sunday, August 30th
Where: Most kayakers & boaters will start at 10am at 26 Auburn St Ext (near River’s Edge Garden Center), but feel free to start any place you feel comfortable along the river. The cleanup will occur by boat on the stretch of Sudbury River between the Frederick P Stearns Reservoir dam on Winter Street and the Central Street bridge (see map on page 2). Boaters will paddle casually as a group and pick up trash until their boats are full – usually around 12:30pm – at which point they paddle to 26 Auburn St Ext to unload the trash. The goal is to arrive at 26 Auburn St Ext to unload trash from boats at 1pm.
What to bring: You are responsible for bringing your own gear. All small boats are welcome, especially kayaks, SUPs, and canoes. Depending on the weather and water temperature, you may wish to use water shoes and a bathing suit to stay comfortable if you get out of your boat while gathering trash. The river is tame and usually waist deep, but personal flotation devices (type 1) are recommended. Additional suggested gear includes a trash picker/grabber/reacher stick, a water bottle & snack, and a dry bag on a tether or carabiner so you don’t lose any valuables in the river.
